Special Announcement for Zamboanga.com News & Editorial

Zambo-Mango Growers

ZAMBO-MANG

Zamboanga.com will be featuring this favorite tropical fruit we call Mango, or Manga in Chavacano/Filipino, to advocate for the local businesses whom we shall call the Zambo-Mango Growers, Association.  We coined the phrase "Zambo-Mango" exclusively to make it sound like fun and exotic, a description that befits the mango.

There are two basic types of mango fruits, and the ones grown locally are the most desirable for exporting to local, national, and international markets.

In our upcoming series of features promoting the local business industry of Zamboanga City, we will present in-depth reports on what products are available locally and how they can be accessed for the untapped markets.  Without proper marketing exposure, the local producers will forever languish in the shadows of unscrupulous middle-men who do not know any better than the actual workers who labor over the care and harvest of this bountiful fruit, and do not have any interest in advancing their livelihood capacity.  We will attempt to change that traditional business practice by exposing the local producers to the vast global market through our web site.  We are hopeful the results will bring a positive impact on the local growers, producers, and their workers, some of whom may be your family or friends.   Please join us in this endeavor.

As information, the mangoes grown locally in Zamboanga City are the best available anywhere.  Below is a description of the mango variety:

Forms: The mango exists in two races, one from India and the other from the Philippines and Southeast Asia. The Indian race is intolerant of humidity, has flushes of bright red new growth that are subject to mildew, and bears monoembryonic fruit of high color and regular form.

The Philippine race tolerates excess moisture, has pale green or red new growth, and resists mildew. Its polyembryonic fruit is pale green and elongated kidney-shaped. Philippines types from Mexico have proven to be the hardiest mangos in California.

Complete Mango Facts: MANGO

In an effort to stimulate interest towards the local economy, we will provide detailed information on the mango market of Zamboanga City and its neighboring environs, exhorting the qualities of their mango harvest and how the outside world can tap into its growth potential.

Of the Philippine Mango variety, the most popular is the CARABAO... famously known as MANGA CARABAO.

We will continue this special report on our next issue.  Please stay tuned...
