Lobregat pushes Zamboanga City separation from Zamboanga del Sur (NSO data statistics)

Zamboanga City (26 March) -- City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat reiterated the city's position supporting Regional Development Council (RDC) Resolution Number IX-030-06 of Zamboanga Peninsula dated December 18, 2006 "requesting the National Statistics Office (NSO) and the National Statistics Coordination Board (NCSB) Central Offices to categorize Zamboanga City as a separate and distinct entity from the Province of Zamboanga Del Sur in all its future censuses, surveys and data sets considering that it is a highly urbanized city.

The said RDC resolution asks for Zamboanga City to be treated as distinct and separate in the official censuses and surveys conducted by the NSO and NSCB.

The resolution further states that there has been an increasing demand from various sectors for disaggregated information/data for Zamboanga City in order to come up with more relevant, timely and accurate basis for planning, budgeting and investment for a highly urbanized city.

Mayor Lobregat said he believes, Zamboanga City being the third largest city in the country in terms of land area, and the sixth largest in population deserves to have its own disaggregated data in all reports.

He said even the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, which has a smaller population than Zamboanga City enjoys disaggregated data. (PIA Z.C.)

The LDP bets would like also to work for the retention of Zamboanga City as the regional center of Western Mindanao.

They are batting for a more transparent, accountable and participatory local government.

Specific measures needed include eliminating red tape, expanded use of information technology, and computerization.

LDP candidates would like to maintain the special barangay affairs office to attend exclusively to the transactions and activities of the city's barangays with the local government.

They also vowed to make the city safe and secure under the regime of peace, law and order including maximum support to the city's police forces, and barangay's law enforcement units.

Another important development agenda is to decongest the city's commercial and business area and develop its outward expansion by improving and opening roads, establishing new growth areas and relocation and construction of vital government installations.
