Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

OWWA-Caraga intensifies education program of OFW dependents

BUTUAN CITY- The Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Caraga is strengthening the education program of the children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the region.

In a press conference on Tuesday held in time with the 30th anniversary of OWWA, Dr. Marietta Lumawag, OWWA-Caraga Regional Director emphasized the need to strengthen the education of the children of OFWs.

The official said because of this, a memorandum of agreement was signed between OWWA-Caraga and eight local government units (LGUs) of the region, as well as some 12 academic institutions to ensure that whatever assistance needed by the students will be properly addressed.

Lumawag stressed the establishment of OWWA help desk in the said LGUs academic institutions highlighted in the agreement.

“It is really our desire to help the children of the OFWs who are studying in the academic institutions in the region as they were left behind by their parents who are working abroad,” Lumawag said.

Meanwhile, OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon graced and personally witnessed the agreement signing of the three parties.

In her speech, Dimzon said the initiative of OWWA-Caraga is the first to be implemented in all the regional welfare offices in the country.

“I am so overwhelmed of what OWWA-Caraga has accomplished… This is also the reason why I personally visited and celebrate the 30th anniversary of OWWA… I also want to witness how the program was implemented in the region… hopefully this will be replicated in other regions,” she said.

The OWWA chief also expressed gratitude for the support of the LGUs and the academic institutions for the success of the program. She said there is a need for the government to partner with public and private stakeholders for the development of the students who are children of OFWs.

“We in the government cannot do the development alone… we need the support of stakeholders especially in the LGUs and academe to put our plans and programs in place,” Administrator Dimzon said.

Accordingly, school administrators and guidance counselors have already expressed appreciation and welcomed this step as a timely response to address the special needs of the OFW’s children.

Present during the MOA-signing are Governor Johnny Pimentel of the Province of Surigao del Sur; Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr.; Nasipit, Agusan del Norte Mayor Rosco Democrito Plaza; and Agusan del Sur municipal mayors Jenny de Asis of San Francisco; Prosperidad Mayor Albin Magdamit; Esperanza Mayor Leonida Manpatilan; Lapaz Mayor Ambrosio Lim; and Loreto Mayor Romeo Magadan.

Also present in the event are school administrators of Father Saturnino Urios University, Caraga State University, Saint Joseph Institute of Technology, Agusan National High School, Southern Technical Institute of the Philippines, De La Salle-John Bosco College, Andres Soriano College, Saint Michael College of Caraga, Saint James National High School, Carmen Academy, Saint Paul University-Surigao City Campus, and Philippine Normal University-Agusan del Sur Campus.

DepEd ICT monitoring team evaluates e-classroom

BUTUAN CITY- The Department of Education (DepEd) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) monitoring team has started to evaluate the e-classrooms of the 13 recipient schools, which are part of the batch 7 of Butuan City Division this summer.

To prepare these schools for the delivery of the e-classroom package before the opening of the school year 2012-2013, they need to be evaluated if each e-classroom is already prepared and have completed the requirements given by the monitoring team.

Among the 13 central schools of Butuan City, only Alviola Village Central Integrated School (AVCIS) was assessed to have complied the requirements during the evaluation which was conducted by the Division Monitoring Team headed by Dr. Donald Orbillos, the Division ICT Coordinator. Although installation of wiring was not yet completely fixed during that time, the materials needed were already complete.

According to Dr. Gilbert Gayrama of the Regional Monitoring Team, AVCIS was the first school to comply the requirements.

With these developments, Rosemarie D. Olmedo, the principal of AVCIS was so thankful for the teachers who were of great help for the preparation of the said e-classroom.

The project supported the efforts of the national government in promoting electronic governance through ICT education.

Population up by 1.49% annually in Caraga Region

BUTUAN CITY- Population in Caraga Region grew by an average of 1.49 percent annually from 2000-2010, the regional office of the National Statistics Office (NSO) here said.

According to NSO-Caraga Regional Director Dr. Rosalinda Celeste, based on the 2010 census of population and housing, the total population of Caraga as of May 1, 2010 is 2,429,224.

The official added the 2010 population is higher by 333,857 compared to the 2000 population of 2,095,367. In 1990, the total population was 1,764,297.

Celeste also said from 1990 to 2000, the average annual growth rate for Caraga was 1.73 percent.

Among the provinces in the region, Celeste said Agusan del Sur posted the highest population with 656,418. Surigao del Sur ranked second with 561,219 and Surigao del Norte had the third largest population count with 442,588.

The 2010 Census of Population and Housing (2010 CPH) was undertaken by NSO in May 2010 pursuant to Batas Pambansa Blg. 72 and Commonwealth Act 591. The 2010 CPH was designed to take an inventory of the population and housing units in the Philippines nationwide and to collect information about their characteristics.

Information on the count of the population and living quarters were collected with 12:01 a.m. of May 1, 2010 as the census reference time and date.

The population counts proclaimed by the President as official for all purposes were based on census questionnaires accomplished by the enumerators all over the country. These questionnaires were processed in Census Processing Centers using the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology along with the Census Integrated Processing System developed by NSO for this purpose.

The successful completion of census-taking was made possible with the support of the local and national officials, government agencies, local government units, media, private agencies, and non-government organizations.

Caraga police upgrades ‘kidnap-for-ransom’ investigators’ skills

BUTUAN CITY- Forty-eight police investigators from the city and provincial police offices under Police Regional Office 13 attended the three-day seminar-workshop training aimed to hone their skills and learn the advanced techniques in the investigations dealing with kidnap-for-ransom cases, at the conference room of Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City, a senior regional police official said Thursday.

“This is in line with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) plan nationwide to have our police investigators undergo such training in order to upgrade their skills in doing their investigative works and to use the modern techniques and gadgets in the performance of their jobs,” he said PSupt. Martin M. Gamba, PRO 13 chief information officer in an interview. He clarified that as far as the PNP is concerned, the holding of such activity here has no implication in any way to the past kidnapping incidents occurring in the region nor did it convey the idea that kidnapping incidents are in uptrend here. In fact, he said that similar activities will also be held in all of the regional police offices nationwide.

Supt. Gamba said a team from Crame arrived here yesterday morning as the seminar guest lecturers led by PSSupt. Isagani R. Nerez, Director of the Anti-Kidnapping Group in Camp Crame, PSupt. Rolando S. Miranda, chief of the PNP Operations and Management Division, PSupt. Joenel M. Aurelio, chief Legal and Inspectorate Division and PCInsp. Rossel I. Cejas, the Anti-Kidnapping Group Public Information Officer.

Gamba also said that the teams consisting of eight police investigators each came from the Police Provincial Offices of Dinagat Island Province, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusand del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Butuan City Police Office, Regional Public Safety Battalion and from the Regional Headquarters, who are undergoing the said training which is expected to end up tomorrow.

After their training, the investigators are expected to perform their functions in their respective areas of responsibility. They are also presumed to extend assistance in cases where kidnapping may occur near their assigned areas.

CSC-Caraga to conduct seminar on handling legislative cases

BUTUAN CITY- To improve knowledge in handling legislative cases, the regional office of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in Caraga will conduct the third batch of seminars for human resource management officers and legal officers of the different government agencies in the region on May 10 to 14.

According to CSC-Caraga Regional Director Adams Torres, the revised rules on administrative cases in the Civil Service will be discussed to enlighten the participants on the new regulations set by the commission in case administrative cases will be filed against any state officials and workers.

Under CSC Memorandum Circular 19, series of 1999, the Commission, through Resolution No. 99-1936 dated August 31, 1999 adopted the new “Uniform Rules in Administrative Cases in the Civil Service,” which will govern the conduct of disciplinary and non-disciplinary proceedings in administrative cases brought before the Commission and/or other government agencies, except where special law provides otherwise.

The said resolution was published in the Manila Standard on September 11, 1999 and thus it took effect on September 27, 1999.

The memorandum pointed out that the Commission shall hear and decide administrative cases instituted by or brought before it directly or on appeal, including contested appointments, and review decisions and actions of its offices and of the agencies attached to it.

It also stated that the existing rules and regulations in administrative cases need to be updated and revised to make them more responsive to the demands for speedy, fair and judicious disposition of cases.

With these developments, the region’s CSC chief enjoined human resource management officers and legal officers of the different government agencies to take part in this seminar to ensure that handling of administrative cases will be made smoothly in accordance with the civil service rules.

Agusan electric coop receive awards

BUTUAN CITY- The Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ANECO) has received three major National Electrification Administration (NEA) Lumen awards.

According to Daniel dela Cena, ANECO public information officer, the electric cooperative received various awards. Arch. Horacio T. Santos was awarded Best General Manager of the Year (Pedro G. Dumol Award); Electric Cooperative of the Year Award for Mega Large Coop Level; and Sunshine Region Award for having the biggest number of house connections in Caraga region.

The awards was given during the annual gathering of electric cooperatives purposely to give awards to the outstanding performance of electric cooperatives (ECs) in the country, specifically the 2012 NEA-EC Conference and Recognition on April 25 to 27 at Waterfront Insular Hotel in Lanang, Davao City.

Aside from the three major awards that the cooperative has received, minor awards was also given to ANECO namely: Best Region Award – for being the Electric Cooperative of Caraga Region that maintains the Categorization A+; Sunshine EC Award – for having the Biggest Number of House Connections; and Model Multi-Purpose Hall – for having a Modern and Distinct Edifice.

A special citation was also given to ANECO for its valuable contribution in providing electricity to 1,520 sitios under the “Sitio Energization Program” of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Thus, according to dela Cena, the awards demonstrates a strong involvement and contribution of ANECO to the progress and development of Butuan city and the province of Agusan del Norte particularly to the thousands of lives of its member-consumers and consumers.
