Magnitude 4.5 quake jolts Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 16 (PNA) -- A magnitude 4.5 earthquake of tectonic origin shook several areas around 9:44 a.m. Thursday here in Region 9.

Allan Rommel Labayog, officer-in-charge of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs)-Zamboanga, told the Philippines News Agency the epicenter of the earthquake is 34 kilometers south and 21 degrees west of Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay with a depth of 29 kilometers.

Labayog said that Intensity 4 was felt in Olutanga and Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay; Intensity 3 in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay; Intensity 2 in Ipil and Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur and this city while in Dipolog City, Intensity 1.

So far, there was no report of damage brought about by the earthquake.

Phivolcs in its earthquake information no. 3 said no aftershock is expected.
