CEBU CITY, Nov. 16 (PNA) -- The management of Robinson’s Galleria Cebu (RGC), which is set to open on Dec. 10, has asked the Cebu City government to make their mall at the city’s North Reclamation Area (NRA) more accessible to public transportation.

Floramie Vega, regional operations manager of Robinson’s Land Corp., said they wanted public transportation to be more available because their mall would start operating on Dec. 10.

In a letter to the Cebu City Council, Vega asked the city to make RGC as one of the stations for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, or the high quality public transport system (HQPTS) or the MyBus.

They also want additional routes for public utility jeepneys (PUJ) to the mall.

Aside from the RGC, Robinson’s Land Corp. is also building a hotel which is set to start operating on the first quarter of 2017.

The complex also includes condominium units which are expected to be completed in 2019.

Vega said the mall alone was expected to generate 50,000 in “foot traffic” daily, with a work force of around 6,000.

“The state of the existing public transportation in the area becomes a critical concern,” she said.

Vega said there were now only nine PUJ routes that had direct access to RGC, which mostly comes from Barangay Labangon and Urgello St. in the south district of Cebu City and Mandaue City.

There are also only five PUJ routes that pass near RGC which come from Barangay Bulacao and Urgello in the south district and Mandaue City and Consolacion in the north of Cebu.

Vega said barangays with bigger population, which are located at the center of the city, such as Lahug, Capitol Site and Guadalupe, as well as the north district barangays of Banilad and Talamban, had no transportation link to RGC.
