MALASIQUI, Pangasinan Aug. 28 (PNA)— The province of Pangasinan and its 19 cities and municipalities are this year's recipients of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Reggie Colisao, DILG provincial director, said the result of the SGLG assessment last year was received by their office last week.

She explained SGLG was formerly known as the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) brainchild by then Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

“It is almost the same except that SGLG has only two options whether the local government unit (LGU) pass or fail in the assessment unlike in the SGH with bronze, silver and gold categories”, said Colisao.

She admitted that SGLG is also stricter compared with SGH.

Colisao explained the evaluation was based on six basic elements, good financial keeping, disaster preparedness, social protection, business friendliness and competitiveness, environment management, and peace and order.

Pangasinan including the towns of Dasol, Burgos, Mabini, Alaminos City, Sual, Bugallon, Dagupan City, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Carlos City, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Basista, Laoac, Binalonan, Bautista, Alcala, Sto. Tomas and Sta. Maria all pass these criteria.

Colisao said the LGU passers in SGLG were awarded with performance challenge fund (PCF), seven million pesos for the province, five million pesos for the cities and three million pesos for the municipalities.

She clarified that DILG provided guidelines on how the passers will use the PCF or the menu of valid projects to choose from.

“We wanted them to be encouraged by this incentive program of the DILG”, said Colisao.
