  • Economy seen growing at faster pace in Q2

MANILA, Philippines - The country likely expanded at a faster pace in the second quarter with gross domestic product seen returning to the seven-percent growth pace, driven by gains in manufacturing.
Gil Beltran, Finance Undersecretary and the country’s chief economist, said the rise in manufacturing growth to 13 percent from April to June “foreshadows a possible return to seven percent real growth in the second quarter.” ........................ Full Story»

  • Tourist spots to get P30-b budget

The Budget Department proposed a P30-billion appropriation for the development of the tourism industry, mostly for the construction of infrastructure projects around tourist spots, in 2015.

Frustration is growing at the slow pace of justice in the Philippines. The trials of those accused of murdering 34 journalists and two dozen others have dragged on for more than 500 days without any conclusive results.
The murders are often described as the worst single atrocity against journalists, and victims' families and media rights groups are demanding action from the Philippine government.
In the basement of the courthouse in Quezon City, part of the metro Manila region, Catholics pray for the souls of the departed. In courtrooms upstairs, doctors present grim evidence of how the victims were killed...Full Story »
