How are you there folk, Its me Cesar, im so glad that even though im here in United States I was able to visit you there through this web site. Since I left that place during 1988, there a lot of changes already. And I could not imagine that day when I was a child we stil use to swim there in the river catch some shirmp for our vianda. climb the lansones tree of our neighbor without permission climb a coconut tree to get some "butung" those were some of the moment that I spend there during my childhood time.

I remember reading a book entitled "The Monkeys Have No Tails in Zamboanga," when I was about 12. It was a very old book in my dad's mini-library in our house in Baliwasan. It had a very profound effect on my young mind. That book might have contributed to that song.
I recently browsed the net and found out there are two books with similar titles, although I think I read the one written by Capt. S.P. Meek, c.1935.
I still remember some passages in the book. I think it related the adventures of a group of American soldiers in the Far East, from Zamboanga to the U.S. involvement in Siberia during the Russian Revolution.
Some people, if they happen to read it, might be offended by the way the book was written (remember this was in the early 1900's). It said that if you cut a monkey's tail, it can pass for a Filipino. Also that our languages sound just like the monkey's chatter. The book also pictured and caricatured us in all the racist ugliness that were prevalent in those times.
Anyway, I hope I was of help. Again, kudos to the good people of Zamboanga.com and Chavacano.org for their tireless efforts to showcase, preserve, and advance our culture and language. I want you to know that all your hard work are appreciated by Zamboanguenos all over the world. There are more people who visit your sites than you can imagine.
Muchas Gracias

Amazing site to get explore & learn something about the best Zamboanga etc. I've been to the City when I was a tiny little boy together w/ my MaMia & Tita, we were buying trade goods for few years. Since then I always dreaming & wanting to see Zamboanga city again. That's why I promise to my self that if I ever get chance to tour & visit someplace best place/city in my mother land(phils.) I would definitely make it sure that I will add the Zamboanga in my list to visit. Anyhow there are two more very interesting in Zambo which is the one place who can speak very great in chavacano(mixed Spanish) followed by Cavite City. And of course the City has a lot lovely & sweet beautiful "MESTIZA" girls...

hi people out there
![]()
great website! great pics! however, may i ask, webmaster: is it really mount columbato or pulong bato?
Dear Romy:
The Chavacanos call it Columbato.
It was called Pulong Bato by others who visited Zamboanga. Those
who stayed now call it Columbato.
Maybe the city's tourism office could help us put an "official" slant on this local landmark, if they're inclined to do so.
We look forward to your continued participation.
Yours truly,
