ILOILO CITY (PNA) -– Two Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs) and one Community ENR Officer (CENROs) from Western Visayas were among the 30 learners of the ongoing program for environmental governance implemented by the University of the Philippines (UP).
The pilot implementation of the UP Program for Environmental Governance (UPPEG) admitted PENRO Ruel delos Reyes of Antique, PENRO Vicente A. Sardina of Guimaras and CENRO Louie Laud of CENRO Belison, Antique.
The training seeks to develop better field implementers by enhancing their capacities through an intensive training on environmental governance.
The program aims to enhance the capacity of the environmental and natural resources officers in the country by strengthening their competency on the management of the environmental functions of the position.
Sessions are now going on at the UP Visayas that will end until Saturday. Next sessions will be held at the ENR Academy, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on February 8-12 and DENR, Quezon City on February 14-20.
The UPPEG was launched last January 18, 2016 as part of the President’s Toast – a celebratory event for high impact programs and projects undertaken by the UP.
“We commend the efforts of the higher office in providing our field officials this kind of training. We honestly need to strengthen the capacity of our PENROs/CENROs to become better environmental managers,” said DENR 6 regional director Jim O Sampulna.
A Memorandum of Understanding between UP through President Alfredo Pascual and DENR through Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje was signed on February 6, 2014 which laid down the agreements of both parties in implementing UPPEG.
