A 99-year-old woman was mauled to death by her own grandson in Barangay Sta. Cruz, La Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte last Friday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the victim as Anicita Jumalon y Padin.

Investigation showed that Jumalon’s grandson 49-year-old Jonito Jumalon y Aldojesa, struck his grandmother with a table resulting to her death.

The suspect was reportedly angered by the sounds made by the old woman while lying on her bed.

The victim was discovered dead by her own son, Recardo Jumalon y Quijoy, at around 11:30 p.m.

La Libertad Municipal Police Station personnel conducted pursuit operations which led to the arrest of the suspect, who escaped on board his motorcycle together with his daughter.

Jonito, the suspect, was reportedly intoxicated when he struck his grandmother.

Jonito was brought to the La Libertad Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
