'''Snorkeling site opens in Davao Oriental'''
*Source: http://pia.gov.ph/news/index.php?menu=2&webregion=R11&article=1561333254237

MATI CITY, Davao Oriental- A snorkeling site in the city is now open for local and foreign enthusiasts and tourists to take in their itineraries when they visit the province especially this summer season.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the region recently opened the snorkeling area at Barangay Tamisan in Mati City as an offshoot to the enterprise development efforts of DENR’s Integrated Coastal Resource Management Project (ICRMP).
DENR-XI signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the local government of Mati City and the Tamisan Marine Protected Area Fisherfolk Association (TAMPAFAS) in implementing the ICRMP in the city.
As part of the agreement, 17 reef rangers were trained, and are now ready to guide tourists who want to explore the surface of the bay.
The trained reef rangers received their brand new snorkeling gears such as mask, fins, life vests, goggles and diving suits after the MOA signing on March 27.
Mayor Michelle Rabat who represented Mati LGU in the MOA, emphasized the need of protecting and conserving the coastal area of Barangay Tamisan in order to lure more tourists to come and snorkel in the area.
“Protecting and conserving the coastal areas also means sustaining your livelihood and enjoying the coastal resources specifically fishes. I am very happy that this enterprise development activity is finally realized,” Rabat said.
Rabat pledged to provide TAMPAFAS a service vehicle for their snorkeling and livelihood activities.
TAMPAFAS was represented by its president Giovanni Lazaro in the MOA signing, while DENR-XI was headed by its regional technical director Emmanuel Isip.
The snorkeling package also features food treat of special native delicacies of Mati City such as taro (local name for gabi), cassava cooked with coconut milk and sugar, salvaro, puto-cassava, lumpia, ube and the local version of mudslide made of milo, milk, tuba (coconut wine) and many more.
Meanwhile, DENR-XI Regional Executive Director Jim O. Sampulna said that DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje have been closely monitoring the ICRMP implementation all over the country.
Paje was instrumental for the early release of the P441,603.00 as a funding support to the association for its start-up capital.
The DENR-ICRMP will continuously monitor the association’s activities and provide them technical assistance when necessary.

Philippines, is the only country in the world which is 85% Catholic that created FIVE(5) national laws "favoring", "promoting" and "financing" the religion of ISLAM.
Then made it unlawful to finance all other religions. Islamic insurgents paid off the architects of the 1987 constitution to insert two words: Muslim and Autonomous.
They classify all the Muslims(Moros) not only as followers of Islam but also as
indigenous people. The only country in the world that has a government commission that caters to Muslims only, for the hajj, for madrasas, and the spread of Islam at government's expense PAID by the taxes of Non-Muslims. A government-run Muslim channel, Salaam TV to promote Islam.

Religion is always good for the people but it should never be embraced or financed by government. Tax exemption is not tantamount to financing. Every non-profit organization is tax-exempt.

Medicinal Herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal, as alternative herbal remedies, or in some cases even spiritual usage. A medicinal herb may be a shrub or other woody plant, whereas a culinary herb is a non-woody plant, typically using the leaves.

Medicinal plants are widely used in non-industrialized societies, mainly because they are readily available and cheaper than modern medicines. The annual global export value of the thousands of types of plants with medicinal properties was estimated to be US$2.2 billion in 2012. In 2017, the potential global market for botanical extracts and medicines was estimated at several hundred billion dollars

Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

History of Davao Oriental, Philippines

When the Spaniards led by Portuguese Explorer Ferdinand Magellan came to the Philippines in 1521, the Southeastern part of Mindanao was then known as Calaghan Island. It is a name derived from the vernacular word “calag” which means spirit or soul. Thus Calaghan is interpreted as “island of spirited men”. So when the Spanish government created the territory of Caraga Province in 1609, they referred to it as “region de gente animosa” or “region of spirited men”.

The Caraga Province covered a long stretch of coastal area from Cape Surigao to Cape San Agustin originally inhabited by indigenous people invariably called “Calaghans” or “Caragan” that included the Mandaya, Mansaka, Manubo, Mamanua, Mangguangan and Tagacaulo. Their Muslim counterparts were similarly called “Calagan” until today.

Davao Oriental was then a part of Caraga Province and the “Encomienda de Bislig” through which a distinguished lawyer, Don Jose Uyanguren, upon the order of Spanish Governor General Narciso Claveria, organized settlements in the now City of Mati and Municipalities of Baganga and Gov. Generoso. The settlements continued to grow as far as Davao City. So in 1849, Governor Claveria decreed the partition of Caraga Province into Surigao Province in the north and Nueva Vergara in the south with the town of Caraga as provincial capital.

When the Amercians came, Nueva Vergara including its adjoining areas became popularly known as Davao, a district of the Moro Province, later the Department of Mindanao and Sulu.

In 1898, Davao became a district of the Moro province created as part of Mindanao by the Americans. In 1916, Jones Law converted the Moro province into department of Mindanao and Sulu.

On July 1, 1967, under Republic Act 4867, Davao was divided into three provinces: Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.

Today, Davao Oriental proudly keeps its Hispanic heritage including the Catholic religion. Many municipalities and barangays have retained their Spanish names like Tarragona, Montserrat and San Isidro. Its native dialect still carries many Spanish words. And the oldest Catholic Church in Mindanao still stands in the town of Caraga, the old capital of Nueva Vergara. * article from the government of Davao Oriental

Natural Resources of Davao Oriental, Philippines

Protect the environment

It is sad but true that as of the year 2012 the rivers of the Philippines continue to be the #1 Sewer Systems of the Philippines.

Protect & Save the Rivers. Do not let your sewer drain into the river. Your community can be the first to initiate this project.
Build your riverbank protection with a built-in gutter system. Reforest within Ten Years - Guaranteed!

Let us plant more trees in every barangay in the entire Philippines. It does not make any difference if the barangay is urban, partially urban or rural; we need more trees. Trees will prevent erosion, provide oxygen, prevent green house effect, and even a place of business for the shade tree mechanic.

The Philippines is a tropical country and practically anything will grow. The DENR has the planting trees project that goes on every year. Lots of picture taking for the media. Planting trees one by one is the "human" way of doing it. This individual planting of trees is good if done to "line" the roads and highways with trees or along fences or property divisions, or if you have a plantation.

To reforest the nation of the Philippines we have to plant trees the "mother nature" way. Sow the seeds during the rainy season. Go deep into "bald" forests and plant trees by sowing seeds. If there's not enough volunteers to do this, use the military helicopters to fly over the designated areas and sow the seeds.

Guaranteed within a few years, The Philippines will be lush again. >>Read More

We are using our rivers as our sewer system. If you ask a Filipino, "Are the Filipinos a clean people?" The answer is an automatic, "Yes!". However, the Filipinos are suffering from the same disease or attitude as most people do, and that is the "NIMBY" disease or "NIMBY" attitude. (NIMBY) Not In My Back Yard. So it is OK to dump my garbage and sewer there. Not mine! Someone else will take care of it.

This attitude is killing our rivers. Your great-grandparents, grandparents or parents were once proud to tell the stories of how they enjoyed swimming in the river behind your house or nearby. However, you can't say the same or tell the same stories to your kids or grand kids. Why? Because your generation is killing the river.

We have so much water in the Philippines and yet very little to drink.

Instead of relying too much on Diesel fuel and Coal to generate the majority of Philippine's Electrical energy Supply, we can concentrate more on renewable and sustainable source of energy such as: Hydro Power, Solar Power, and Wind Power and thermal energy conversion. We have too many black outs.
