Military hosts Olympic Day Celebration Friday

MANILA, June 24 (PNA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) formally hosted this year's Olympic Day Celebration at its headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City Friday.

Olympic Day Celebration is an annual worldwide activity of International Olympic Committee adopted locally and is a day to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

The celebrations were spearheaded by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), AFP public affairs office chief Col. Noel Detoyato said.

A Solidarity Run, highlighting close cooperation between the military and sport agencies, was held at 5:30 a.m. at GHQ Parade Grounds.

Detoyato said an estimated 1,500 officers and enlisted personnel joined national athletes in the fun run.

Acting AFP chief Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda and POC president Jose Cojuangco, PSC representatives and other stakeholders were also present.
