ILOILO CITY, April 27 (PNA) -- Job seekers are encouraged to pre-register for the Labor Day job fair, which is now ongoing at the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here.

DOLE 6 announced that 12,028 vacancies for local and overseas employment are available as of today. The number may increase as more companies are expected to confirm their participation before the job fair slated on Sunday.

The job fairs will be held simultaneously at Amigo Plaza Mall and SM City Iloilo. The Amigo Plaza Mall will host the job fair for business process outsourcing companies. Already seven firms have signified their participation with 1,136 vacancies posted.

Meantime, SM City will be the venue for the job fair for 68 local and 15 overseas placement agencies and companies.

There are 2,127 local vacancies available to date while there are 8,765 available for overseas placement. The demand for workers in hotels and restaurants and hospital in Middle East countries and in the United Kingdom is high.

DOLE initiates three major job fairs annually held every May 1, June 12 and December 8, said DOLE OIC assistant regional director Salome O. Siaton. During these fairs they are targeting at least 15 percent of the qualified applicants to get hired-on-the-spot (HOTS).

She added that the activity is significant as it allows employers to hire people who possess the qualifications they set while it also provides venue for job seekers to be placed based on their acquired skills.
