THERE will be 16,953 jobs available at the Kalayaan Job Fair today at the Cebu City Sports Center, the Department of Labor and Employment 7 said.

Luchel Taniza, DOLE 7 Public Information Officer, said 11,899 of the job vacancies are for overseas employment while the remaining 5,054 of these are local jobs.

There will be 64 companies that will participate in the upcoming job fair in time with the Independence Day.

Majority of the local positions available include technicians, associate professionals, service workers, shop and market sales workers, clerks, laborers, crafts and trade workers, plant and machine operators and assemblers.

The labor agency has also identified top positions needed overseas including factory workers; hotel and restaurant service crew, laborers, carpenters, nurses, pipefitters, electricians, welders, steel fabricators, construction workers, plumbers and engineers.

DOLE 7 has advised jobseekers to be ready with their bio-data, comprehensive resumès, transcript of records, and certificates of employment. Clearances, photos, and other necessary pre-employment requirements should to be on hand. OIC Director Exequiel Sarcauga said bringing these documents would allow the applicants to apply with multiple companies so they could have better chances of getting hired.

In addition, jobseekers are advised to pre-register at Cebu City Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) or at Phil-Jobnet.

In a memorandum dated April 22, Dole 7 ranked third among all regions in terms of job vacancy postings at Phil-Jobnet System. From April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015, Dole 7 posted 80,389 job vacancies.

The Kalayaan Job Fair is a collaboration between Sun.Star, the Department of Manpower Development and Placement, and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
