Johnny Arcilla and Marian Capadocia flashed fine form and came away with a pair of straight-set victories to rule their respective divisions in the fifth Gov. Anacleto Alcala Memorial Cup tennis tournament at the Lucena City Tennis Club in Lucena City yesterday.
LUCBAN, Quezon- Thousands of local and foreign tourists started to flock in this historic town to witness the colorful and exciting activities in ”Lucban San Isidro Pahiyas Festival,” which began on April 8 and will last until May 16.

The top-seeded Arcilla clipped doubles partner Patrick Tierro, 6-3, 6-3, to complete his domination of the men’s side of the week-long event held as part of Rep. Irvin Alcala and Vice Gov. Vicente Alcala’s sports development program in Lucena.
This year’s theme of the pahiyas festival is “It’s more fun in Pahiyas sa Lucban.

The second-ranked Capadocia, on the other hand, quashed Marinel Rudas’ bid for another upset with an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory in the women’s final of the tournament sponsored by Pueblo Por La Playa and St. Jude Satellite City.
Cornelio R. Raneses, municipal administrative officer who is also the overall coordinator of the pahiyas sa Lucban said around 300,000 to 500,00 tourists are expected to come in Lucban town to watch and join the famous Pahiyas.

Arcilla, a many-time PCA Open champion, imposed his will early and never gave Tierro a chance to retaliate, closing out his campaign in the week-long Group B event the way he started it – in one-sided fashion.
"The festival not only promotes the local tourism of Lucban town and Quezon province, it also generates income on the part of the local government of Lucban as well to other Quezonians," Raneses added.

The 31-year-old Arcilla opened up with a 6-0, 6-1 romp over Jerry Pacaigue then swept past Kristian Tesorio, 6-1, 6-1, Alexander Lazaro, 6-2, 6-2, and Rolando Ruel, 6-0, 6-2, to set up a title duel with Tierro.
During the Lucban San Isidro Pahiyas festival, each household tries to outdo the others in terms of creativity. This accounts for some of the most curious décor that the festival tends to show.

Capadocia, meanwhile, proved too tough for Rudas with the 16-year-old find, also the reigning PCA Open ladies champion, breaking Rudas early to gain the momentum in the first set before re-asserting her might in next to wrap up the crown.
Decorating the wall with “Kiping” and with their agricultural harvest is what “Pahiyas” literally means. The most traditional and certainly the most attractive décor comes of course in form of “Kiping,” which are strung together to form all sort turns into absolute cascades of color. This decoration is a form of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and in honor of the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro de Labrador.

It was a sorry setback for Rudas, who primed herself up for the crown with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(5) win over top seed Clarice Patrimonio in the semis. But Capadocia proved up to the task, outclassing Rudas with her forehand winners and solid baseline game to clinch the victory.
The Pahiyas festival shall be highlighted also by a holy mass (thanksgiving to San Isidro Labrador), procession, selection of best pahiyas décors, grand parade, and San Miguel Beer Plaza on May 15. The awarding of prizes to the winners of pahiyas contests shall be held also on May 16.

Another one of the highlights in the Pahiyas is the Gayak Karosa. It is a crowd-getter, considering the artistic technology and application of products creativity through the increasing interest of the farmers. Prizes will be given to the winners based on given criteria in terms of creativity, artistry, use of local products, overall impact, and relevance to the theme of the celebration.

Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

History of Quezon, Philippines

Source: www.quezon.gov.ph - verbatim

The province formerly known as Tayabas, was explored by the Spaniards in 1571 and 1572 when Juan de Salcedo visited and explored upon the order of the first Spanish Governor General of the Philippines, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. They passed through the central portion of Tayabas in his march across Laguna Province to Paracale. The following years, Salcedo led his famous expeditions around the northern coast of Luzon. He visited the "CONTRACOSTA" towns of Casiguran, Baler and Infanta.

In 1574, Father Diego de Oropesa, who found a group of native barangays with their own culture and government, founded the municipality of Gumaca, then called Bumaka.

The territory which now constitutes the province of Tayabas was at one time under the jurisdiction of various provinces. The southern and central portions, for example, were in 1585 under the jurisdiction of the province of Bonbon, sometimes called Balayan (now Batangas). the northern portion was divided between Laguna and Nueva Ecija, while the other portion was divided into the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and Camarines.

In 1591, Tayabas was created into a province under the name of Kalilayan. Its capital was the ancient town of Tayabas, now a barrio in the town of Unisan where ancient tombs and artifacts can be found. However, by the middle of the 18th century the provincial capital was moved to what is now the municipality of Tayabas.

The year 1595 marked the spiritual birth of Quezon Province with its incorporation into the Diocess of Nueva Caceres. The first Catholic Bishop of the province was Fray Francisco Ortiga, an Agustinian Friar, while its first Alcalde Mayor was Don Simeon Alvarez, who served from 1625 to 1655.

In September 7, 1946, President Manuel A. Roxas, by virtue of Republic Act No. 14 renamed the province to Quezon, in honor of the late President Manuel L. Quezon, the most illustrious son of Baler, formerly part of Quezon.

The present seat of provincial government is Lucena City, the province's capital.

Natural Resources of Quezon, Philippines

Protect the environment

It is sad but true that as of the year 2012 the rivers of the Philippines continue to be the #1 Sewer Systems of the Philippines.

Protect & Save the Rivers. Do not let your sewer drain into the river. Your community can be the first to initiate this project.
Build your riverbank protection with a built-in gutter system. Reforest within Ten Years - Guaranteed!

Let us plant more trees in every barangay in the entire Philippines. It does not make any difference if the barangay is urban, partially urban or rural; we need more trees. Trees will prevent erosion, provide oxygen, prevent green house effect, and even a place of business for the shade tree mechanic.

The Philippines is a tropical country and practically anything will grow. The DENR has the planting trees project that goes on every year. Lots of picture taking for the media. Planting trees one by one is the "human" way of doing it. This individual planting of trees is good if done to "line" the roads and highways with trees or along fences or property divisions, or if you have a plantation.

To reforest the nation of the Philippines we have to plant trees the "mother nature" way. Sow the seeds during the rainy season. Go deep into "bald" forests and plant trees by sowing seeds. If there's not enough volunteers to do this, use the military helicopters to fly over the designated areas and sow the seeds.

Guaranteed within a few years, The Philippines will be lush again. >>Read More

We are using our rivers as our sewer system. If you ask a Filipino, "Are the Filipinos a clean people?" The answer is an automatic, "Yes!". However, the Filipinos are suffering from the same disease or attitude as most people do, and that is the "NIMBY" disease or "NIMBY" attitude. (NIMBY) Not In My Back Yard. So it is OK to dump my garbage and sewer there. Not mine! Someone else will take care of it.

This attitude is killing our rivers. Your great-grandparents, grandparents or parents were once proud to tell the stories of how they enjoyed swimming in the river behind your house or nearby. However, you can't say the same or tell the same stories to your kids or grand kids. Why? Because your generation is killing the river.

We have so much water in the Philippines and yet very little to drink.

Instead of relying too much on Diesel fuel and Coal to generate the majority of Philippine's Electrical energy Supply, we can concentrate more on renewable and sustainable source of energy such as: Hydro Power, Solar Power, and Wind Power and thermal energy conversion. We have too many black outs.
