CEBU CITY – The city government has introduced its biofence technology to eight mountain villages here, aimed at addressing the massive accumulation of garbage from neighboring municipalities’ coastal areas. The setting up of biofences in Agsungot, Binaliw, Pulangbato, Pit-os, San Jose, Bacayan, Talamban, and Budlaan came after the 5th Cebu City coastal cleanup activity on Saturday. The biofence is made up of pet bottles wrapped in a net, and is designed to float on riverbanks, creeks, and other waterways to contain garbage and prevent them from flowing into the ocean.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – One of the most wanted persons in the country and a female firefighter were arrested in separate manhunt operations in Sulu and this city, police officials said Saturday. Brig. Gen. Neil Alinsañgan, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director, said Singbi Hassan, 45, was arrested by operatives of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company and Sulu Police Provincial Office at the Hasiman wharf in Barangay Tanjung, Indanan, Sulu at about 6:15 p.m. Friday.
LUCENA CITY – A police buy-bust operation here on Monday morning resulted in the seizure of almost 375 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of PHP7.6 million from a vendor of used motorcycles. In a police report, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) chief, Maj. Mendel Casao, said suspect Andrian Saludez, 34, a resident of Barangay Isabang, this city, is a high-value individual (HVI). He said Saludez was arrested after selling a sachet containing the suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.
