A policeman survived an ambush by still unidentified suspects along a mountainous road in Barangay New Dapitan, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte last Monday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the policeman as PO2 Rey Torrefranca Saladaga, 38-years-old, and assigned at the Gutalac Municipal Police Station.

The incident reportedly happened while Saladaga was riding his motorcycle on his way to work at around 6:30 a.m.

Upon approaching a flat portion of the mountainous road, he was reportedly fired at by two unidentified persons.

Saladaga managed to pull over and fired back at his attackers using his issued firearm.

The suspects fled towards the cliff where they escaped.

Saladaga motored to the police station to report the incident.

The victim’s companions proceeded to the area and recovered four empty shells of a 9mm handgun believed to have come from the firearm used by the perpetrators.

Gutalac Municipal Police Station personnel are conducting pursuit operations for the identification and possible apprehension of the suspects.
